BYOD headset compatibility matrix

Published Aug 13, 2024 • Updated May 1, 2026

Overview

Users buy consumer headsets expecting Teams certification. Unsupported devices drive “it works on Zoom” tickets and Bluetooth codec dropouts.

Matrix columns

Headset model, connection (USB-A/C, BT dongle vendor), certified for Teams flag, firmware updater URL, known issues (muting bus, dongle pairing limits).

Guidance to publish

  • Prefer wired USB for exec assistants on calls 6+ hours.
  • If BT required, mandate vendor USB dongle, not generic laptop radio.
  • Publish minimum OS / Teams client versions; block very old Plantronics hubs with known echo bugs.

Procurement

For standardized rollout, negotiate SKU bundles with your reseller; keep two spare models in stock for RMA velocity.

Ticket hints

Ask for firmware version and whether issue reproduces on mobile Teams—separates client from desk dock power issues.
